Las Vegas - UNLV women's golf finished in 16th place Sunday at the 42 Annual Stanford/Pepsi Intercollegiate Showdown, held at the Stanford Golf Course in Palo Alto, Calif.
Arizona State led wire-to-wire and took team championship honors, carding a three-round total of 852 (+12). The No. 9 Sun Devils won by five strokes over No. 16 Pepperdine, which finished the tournament with an 857 (+17). No. 5 Washington was third (861, +21), No. 3 UCLA came in fourth (862, +22) and host-Stanford rounded out the top-five (869, -29). Ten of the top-30 teams in the country were in the 18-team field.
Elena Kurokawa's 35th-place finish led the Rebels, as the senior rolled a final-round 75 to finish the tournament with a three-day total of 223 (+13). Kurokawa was consistent on the par-70, 6,168-yard course all three days, as she had rounds of 74 in the first two rounds of the tournament. Seema Sadekar followed with a final round 76 for a total 224 (+14) that placed the sophomore in a tie for 41st.
Young Pak fired a 75 to finish in a tie for 67th with a total of 232 (+22). Allison Chell shot a final round 81 to finish tied 75th (235, +25) and Tina Mabanta rounded out the Rebels with an 81 to finish tied for 78th (237, +27).
Anastasia Kostina of Washington State won the individual championship after firing a one-under 69, her third consecutive sub-par round, to finish with a 205 (-5). She won by two strokes over the trio of Louise Stahle of Arizona State, Cassandra Kirkland of Arizona and Rachel Kyoko of Pepperdine. All three finished the tournament three-under at 207. Paige Mackenzie of Washington came in fifth at even-par with a three-day total of 210
