Box Score
LAS VEGAS - UNLV's Erica Frizzell and Annii Magliulo each had a goal and an assist as the Rebels outshot Wyoming 25-9 on the way to a 3-1 victory in Mountain West Conference women's soccer action on Sunday afternoon from Peter Johann Memorial Field. It was the eighth straight win at home for UNLV, and the Rebels moved back into first place in the conference with a 3-1 mark (10-3-2 overall), while Wyoming dropped to 7-5-4, 1-2 in the league.
The goal and assist for Magliulo, a senior midfielder, also moved her into a tie for first place on the all-time career points list at UNLV with 66, along with former star Anita Pedford (1998-2001). She started off the scoring for the Rebels in the first half. Jessica Brown sent a corner kick into the box to Frizzell, who hit a shot that hit the crossbar, but came back down and Magliulo headed in the ball past Cowgirl goalie Ashley Sheppard for the score at 22:48.
The Rebels added to the lead at 33:42, when Ashly O'Harrow passed off to Jessica Destito just outside of the box on the left side, and Destito blasted a shot towards the top left corner that banged off the post back into the net for the second goal of the game. Frizzell finished the scoring for UNLV, after Magliulo fed her a cross inside the box and Frizzell slotted a shot to the left side of the net for the 3-0 Rebel advantage at 83:06.
Wyoming's Mercy Adetoye attempted to make a game of it in the final minute, as she broke away from two defenders, moved into the box, and scored from five yards out to cut the lead to 3-1 at 89:03. She nearly scored a second goal with seven seconds remaining, as again she had the ball alone in the box on a breakaway, but a UNLV defender forced her to rush a shot that just glanced off the crossbar.
Jenna Huff finished with three saves and one goal allowed for the Rebels, while Sheppard posted eight saves and three goals allowed.
UNLV goes out of Mountain West play to take on Southern Utah on Thursday at 2 pm in Cedar City, Utah, before returning home to host Air Force on Senior Day on Sunday, Oct. 24 at Noon.
