SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Sacramento State scored two first half goals to top UNLV 2-1 in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men's soccer action on Friday night. With the loss, UNLV fell to 4-8, and 3-3 in the league, while the Hornets improved to 4-7-1 overall on the year.
Ryan Rhodes began the scoring quickly for Sac State, collecting a pass from Andrew Tamm and sending a shot to the left post for a 1-0 lead just 2:33 into the contest. Then with just two seconds left before halftime, Eli Millan gave the host team a 2-0 edge with a shot to the far left post, off an assist from Ricky Rodriguez.
UNLV's Rod Dyachenko cut the lead to 2-1 with a score at 56:20, one a one-touch volley off a cross from Deshawn Woolery. However, just three minutes later Rebel goalie Peter Clitheroe received a red card and was ejected. UNLV was forced to play a man down the rest of the game, and they would not come up with the tying score.
The Rebels return home to host second-ranked New Mexico on Thursday at 7 pm at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
