Rebels Set For Lobo Attack

Oct. 20, 2004

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV men's soccer team looks to win its third straight at home on Thursday night, but will have a tough job ahead of them as they will host second-ranked New Mexico, at 7 pm at Peter Johann Memorial Field.

The Rebels had a three-game win streak snapped in their last outing, a 2-1 loss at Sacramento State on Sunday, but finished the first half of the MPSF schedule with an even 3-3 record. UNLV (4-8 overall) is led this season by junior Rod Dyachenko, who has four of the Rebels' seven goals this season, including three game-winners. Junior Pete Clitheroe is the starting keeper, and is boasting a 1.93 GAA with 61 saves and three shutouts.

The Lobos, holding the highest ranking in school history, suffered their first loss of the year after being upset 2-1 at Denver on Sunday, but still moved up to their current position in the rankings, and are tied with the Pioneers for first in the league with 4-1 records. Junior Jeff Rowland paces the Lobos with 13 goals, which leads the conference, and his 26 points (2.36 per game) is third in the NCAA. Senior Hans Bevers also is tops in the MPSF in assists with six, while Andrew Weber is 11th in the nation in GAA with 0.64.
