LAS VEGAS - UNLV is one win away from its first-ever Mountain West Conference women's soccer regular season championship, as the Rebels take on San Diego State in a first-place showdown on Saturday at 1 pm in San Diego in the season finale for both teams.
The Rebels and the Aztecs are both tied for first in the conference entering the final day of play, as UNLV has a 4-1 conference mark while SDSU boasts a 3-0-2 mark. If the Rebels win or earn a tie, they will receive the top-seed in next week's 2004 MWC Tournament in Provo, Utah. A loss would send UNLV to the third seed, with Utah moving up to the second spot.
UNLV is 10-3-2 overall, eighth in this week's NSCAA West region rankings, and ninth in Soccer Buzz's West region rankings. The Rebels are by senior midfielder Annii Magliulo with three goals and five assist for 11 points, while freshman Katie Carney has a team-high four goals for nine points. Jenna Huff continues her outstanding season, posting a 0.72 GAA with 76 saves and seven shutouts for the year.
San Diego State has ridden its defense, as the Aztecs have scored just 10 goals this year. Jen Klunder and Alexis Solovij have scored three goals apiece, and both have seven points. In goal, Sophia Perez has posted a league-high eight shutouts, and has a 0.62 GAA with 69 saves.
