ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Lance Watson had a hand in all three of New Mexico's second half goals as the fifth-ranked Lobos moved to a perfect 8-0 on the year with a 3-0 win over UNLV in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men's soccer action on Sunday afternoon from the UNM Soccer Complex.
After a scoreless first half, Patrick Grange put New Mexico on the scoreboard with a shot from 10 yards out at 56:33, with Watson assisting on the goal. Jeff Rowland added to the lead when he headed in Watson's free kick into the far post for a 2-0 Lobo advantage at 64:48. Watson then closed out the score as beat his defender and took a blast from 25 yards out to the left side for the 3-0 score at 77:10.
The Lobos held a 22-9 advantage on shots for the game. Peter Clitheroe played the majority of time in goal, and finished with five saves and three goals allowed for UNLV (1-7, 0-2 MPSF) , while Lobo goalkeeper Andrew Weber posted three saves to record the shutout.
UNLV will return to action this weekend with a pair of home MPSF games. The Rebels will first host Denver on Friday night at 7 pm, and then will meet Air Force on Sunday at Noon. Both games will be played at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
