Box Score
LAS VEGAS - UNLV scored twice in the first half while Jenna Huff posted her third straight shutout in goal as the Rebels claimed a 2-0 win over Arizona State in women's collegiate soccer action on Sunday afternoon from Peter Johann Field. The win was the sixth straight at home for UNLV, moving them to 7-2-2 on the season, while Arizona State fell to 4-6.
The Rebels' first score of the day came midway through the first half, as Annii Magliulo found Nickie Olson alone near the top of the box. Olson settled the pass and sent a blast to the top left corner of the goal, just over the hands of Sun Devil goalkeeper Kim Bingham for the 1-0 lead at the 24:08 mark. UNLV added to its lead right before the end of the half, when Lori Sakai's shot from the middle of the box was deflected by Bingham into an ASU defender on the goaline and into the net for a 2-0 Rebel edge at 44:02.
Arizona State turned up the offense in the second half, outshooting UNLV 13-1, but the Rebel defense kept the majority of the shots to outside of the box. The Sun Devils held a 21-6 edge in shots for the game. Huff would finish the game with seven saves to earn the shutout, her sixth of the season and 18th in her career, while Bingham finished with two goals allowed and no saves.
UNLV will open its Mountain West Conference schedule this weekend with a pair of road games in Utah. The Rebels will meet Utah on Friday at 2 pm in Salt Lake City, and then will take on BYU on Saturday, October 9 at 6 pm in Provo.
