SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - UNLV continued its school record shutout streak as the Rebels opened Mountain West Conference play with a 1-0 victory at preseason favorite Utah in women's collegiate soccer action on Thursday afternoon from Ute Field. With the win, UNLV won its third straight and moved its unbeated and shutout streak to four games to improve to 8-2-2 on the year, 1-0 in the league, while the Utes fell to 7-4-1, 0-1 in MWC play. The eight wins in their first 12 games is also the best start for the Rebels in the seven year history of the program. It was also just the second win for UNLV over the Utes in the all-time series between the two.
Utah had a decisive advantage on shots for the afternoon, 16-5, including 8-1 in the first half, but UNLV goalie Jenna Huff turned in another outstanding performance, recording six saves for the game, and has a streak of 425 minutes (spanning five games) without allowing a score. The Rebels would earn the victory in the second half, as junior Angie Inzana took a shot from 10 yards out that hit the turf and bounced over Ute goalie Ashley Mason into the upper right corner for the 1-0 lead at 69:21.
Next up for the Rebels is a trip to Provo, Utah, where they will take on BYU, a team the Rebels have never defeated in seven attempts. The game is set for Saturday at 6 pm (PST), and will be broadcast live by BYU-TV, which is available in the Las Vegas market on Cox Cable, channel 352.
