Rebels Fall In Season Finale

SAN DIEGO - UNLV finishes its 2004 men's soccer season with a 4-2 loss at San Diego State on Sunday afternoon in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation action. With the loss, the Rebels finish their season at 6-12, while the Aztecs end with a 4-13-2 overall mark and 4-7-1 in league play.

San Diego State outscored the Rebels 2-1 in both halves. Frank Caruso started the scoring with a long shot out in the 19th minute, while Andrew DiCicco followed with a goal in the 30th minute after stealing a UNLV pass near the Aztec goal, as he drove the entire field to notch the score.

UNLV's Rod Dyachenko got the Rebels on the board with a score in the 38th minute, with Deshawn Woolery assiting on the play. SDSU increased the lead to 3-1

The Aztecs came back out in the second half and quickly scored again when Eric Wohl took a pass, turned the corner around a defender and sent in the 18-yard shot (48:09). SDSU followed up the score nine minutes later to put the game out of reach as Freddy McDonald took a deflected save from keeper Matt Johnson and booted it into the net from 3-yards out (57:17).

UNLV capped the scoring in the 63rd minute on Dyachenko's second goal of the day. Espen Sjoevoll had the assist on the play.

For the game the Aztecs outshot UNLV 22-11. The Rebel's Johnson ended with eight saves, and Tally Hall picked up two.
