Rebels Fall Short In Hawaii

KAHUKU, Hawaii - The UNLV men's golf team shot a final-round 13-over-par 301 on Wednesday and let its lead slip away at the Turtle Bay Intercollegiate at the Links at Turtle Bay Resort. The tournament's final round was played at the Arnold Palmer Course (par 72, 7,199 yards).

UNLV (286-278-301--865, +1), which led after each of the first two rounds, finished at 1-over for the tournament, three shots back of team champion Hawaii (291-276-295--862, -2). UC Riverside (287-281-298--866, +2) finished third, four shots off the pace.

Hawaii's Cody Wolfenbarger (69-66-71--206, -10) shot a final-round 1-under 71 to hang on for medalist honors, winning the tournament by six shots.

Travis Whisman (69-70-74--213, -3) led the Rebels and finished tied for fourth. Fellow Rebels Ryan Keeney (72-70-75--217, +1) and Sam Hunt (72-68-77--217, +1) finished just out of the top 10, tying for 11th.

Other UNLV players were: Matt Kinsinger (T30; 73-74-75--222, +6) and Jarred Texter (T38; 74-70-79--223, +7).

The Turtle Bay Intercollegiate was the final tournament of the fall for UNLV. The Rebels next action will be in February at the John Burns Intercollegiate in Wahiawa, Hawaii.
