Rebels On The Road

Nov. 4, 2004

LAS VEGAS - Coming off a pair of one-goal victories, the UNLV men's soccer team looks to make a rise in the MPSF standings as they take on Air Force and Denver on the road this weekend. The Rebels will meet Air Force first on Friday at 3 pm, and then take on Denver in a Sunday contest at 11 am.

The Rebels (6-9 overall, 5-4 MPSF) won a pair of one-goal games last weekend, 2-1 over Sacramento State on Oct. 29, and 1-0 over San Jose State on Oct. 31. Senior midfielder Boomer Arbelaez scored once in each game, including the game-winner with one-second left in the win voer SJSU, a performance that gave him MPSF Co-Player of the Week honors. Junior midfielder Rod Dyachenko leads the team with five goals and two assists for 12 points, and has four game-winners. In goal is junior Peter Clitheroe, with a 1.71 GAA, four shutouts, and 68 saves.

Air Force (6-8-1, 2-6 MPSF) began the season at 6-2-1, but have falling apart since with six straight losses, including a 2-0 loss in Las Vegas on Oct. 10. Marcus Sagastume paces the Falcons with five goals and three assists for 13 points. Paul Elsbernd (1.85 GAA, 30 saves) and Mike Maynard (1.90 GAA, 40 saves) have split time in goal.

The Pioneers are currently second in the MPSF (8-5-1 overall, 5-3 conference), and are the only team to have beaten league leader New Mexico this season (2-1 on Oct. 17 in Denver). Denver is led by Travis Hendricks with six goals and three assists for 15 points. Once again, two goalies have split time in the nets, as Justin Durst is boasting a 1.12 GAA with 18 saves, while Matt Bredehoft has a 1.22 GAA with 41 saves on the year.
