LAS VEGAS - The second-ranked California softball team scored 10 runs over the final two innings to post a 12-0 victory over UNLV at Eller Media Stadium on Friday.
Leading 2-0 through four innings, Cal (8-0) came alive in the fifth, taking advantage of three singles and poor defense to rack up five runs.
The Bears added five more in the top of the sixth to go up 12-0 and seal a mercy-rule victory.
UNLV (3-4) committed a season-worst five errors in the game. Despite a solid pitching performance in which she did not allow an earned run, Jacqueline Kerrigan (3-3) took the loss, while Cal's Kristina Thorson earned the win.
The Rebels will continue play in the 2004 UNLV Softball Classic on Saturday, with games scheduled against No. 8 Michigan at 1:30 p.m. and Notre Dame at 6:30 p.m.
