LAS VEGAS -
No. 74 Oklahoma downed UNLV 6-1 Saturday to advance to the final of the annual men's tennis spring invitational at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
The Rebels fell to 1-3 while the Sooners improved to 5-0.
OU won two of three doubles matches to win the team point despite UNLV duo Henner Nehles and Joel Kielbowicz winning at the top spot in thrilling fashion, 9-8.
In singles play, Alexei Ivanov rallied to down Nehles on Court One, 2-6, 6-1, 7-5. UNLV eventually got on the board with Kielbowicz' three-set win at No. 4, 6-2, 4-6, 6-0, over Tommy Garrison. However, the Sooners were able to close out the remaining matches.
"The match was much closer than the score indicated and I am proud of our effort," UNLV head coach Owen Hambrook said. "Oklahoma played well and congratulations to them."
