LAS VEGAS - The UNLV softball team posted season highs in runs and hits in a 12-5 rout of Texas-El Paso at Eller Media Stadium on Saturday.
The Rebels (5-8) pounded out 15 hits and received an outstanding pitching performance from senior Kacey Ellis (1-0), who earned her first win of the year in a complete-game effort and did not give up an earned run.
UNLV did most of its damage in the third inning, scoring seven runs on seven hits. Pauline Glenn delivered the big shot of the inning, a two-RBI double that hit the warning track.
The seven-run inning was necessary to offset a five-run second inning by UTEP (3-5) in which the Rebels committed four fielding errors.
All but one of the Rebels starters collected a hit in the game, including three apiece from Amber Campbell and Brittany Freight.
The Rebels continue tournament play on Saturday night with a scheduled 7:30 p.m. matchup against Michigan State.
