LAS VEGAS - Arizona State shot a final-round 293 and held on to win the Southern Highlands Collegiate Championship by two strokes over top-ranked Florida on Sunday.
Florida did not leave Las Vegas empty handed, however, as the Gators' Camilo Villegas carded a final-round 69 to overtake Wake Forest's Bill Haas and win the event by a single stroke.
Just a stroke behind Haas was defending tourney champ Ryan Moore, who shot 69 for the third straight round at the par-72, 7,381-yard Southern Highlands Golf Club. Moore finished alone in third place at nine-under par.
Despite Moore's strong play, the host Rebels did not fare as well. The Rebels shot eight-over as a team on Sunday and finished at 11-over par in a three-way tie for eighth place.
Travis Whisman contributed an even par round to the Rebels' team score on Sunday and claimed 14th place overall at three-under par.
Rounding out the Rebels' team total were Andres Gonzales, who finished with a 77, and Ryan Keeney, who shot 78. Freshman Matt Edwards, who opened with back-to-back 74s, shot 81 on Sunday to conclude his collegiate debut.
Overall, scores were higher in the final round as no team finished under par. Clemson, which finished in third place, had the day's low team round at an even 288, while the 69s turned in by Villegas, Moore and Georgia's Richard Scott were the best individual scores on the day.
The Rebels will not have long to regroup as they head to Houston next week to compete in the Hall of Fame Invitational, hosted by the Golf Coaches Association of America. Play is slated for March 19-21.
