TUCSON, Ariz. - UNLV junior golfer Ryan Moore retained his lead after the second round of the National Invitation Tournament, but saw his edge slide from four strokes to one after shooting a 73 on Monday.
At seven-under, Moore leads a trio of players by one stroke. He had held a four-stroke lead, carding an amazing eight-under par 64 in Sunday's opening round, but lost some ground on the field after carding his first competitive round over par since October 4, 2003.
As a team, the Rebels remained in the middle of the pack. UNLV shot a five-over par 293 as a squad and moved to three-over for the tourney. It sits in sixth place, 13 shots behind Arizona State for the lead.
Freshman Sam Hunt was the lowest Rebel on the day. After shooting a negligible 76 on Sunday, Hunt trimmed five strokes off his score at the par-72, 7,094-yard Omni Tucson National Golf Course for a one-under 71.
Tied with Hunt in 28th place is fellow Rebel Travis Whisman. Whisman carded a two-over 74.
Ryan Keeney's 75 capped the team's scoring. Andres Gonzales shot a 79, which did not figure into the team total.
Final round play at the National Invitation Tournament will begin at 7:30 a.m. MST.
