CLEARWATER, Fla. - For her third consecutive start, pitcher Jacqueline Kerrigan tossed a one-hitter as the UNLV softball team defeated Villanova 1-0 in eight innings at the Speedline Invitational at the E.C. Moore Complex on Thursday.

Kerrigan (8-7), who allowed just one hit in five innings against Simon Fraser last Saturday and came within an out of no-hitting Utah Valley State last Sunday, kept the Wildcats (5-7) off balance throughout the afternoon. She retired the first 12 batters of the game before surrendering a single to shallow right field to Villanova's Kari Koller in the fifth inning.

UNLV (9-10) was held equally quiet at the plate, putting just two runners on base through seven innings. VU starter Shannon Williams (5-3) permitted only a second-inning single to Pauline Glenn and allowed Bridget Byrne to reach in the fourth on a fielding error.

The pitchers' duel rocked back and forth in a very quick game that lasted only 1:20. With the game still scoreless after seven, the international tiebreaker rule went into effect.

Kerrigan stayed quite sharp in the extra frame, recording her sixth strikeout of the game followed by a pair of pop ups to keep the runner at second and escape the inning unscathed.

UNLV took advantage of its opportunity in the eighth. Christy Tennes was put in to pinch run at second and cruised easily into third on a sac bunt by Glenn. Morgan Bostwick then came through with the big hit, the Rebels' second of the game, driving a pitch into left field to score the game's only run.

After being robbed of potential hits in the second and fifth by some solid defense, Bostwick came through with the clutch hit to extend her hitting streak to seven games.

The Rebels continue play on Thursday with an exhibition game against the U.S. Olympic Team at 8:00 p.m. ET.
