LAS VEGAS - Both UNLV tennis teams saw their top players rise in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association's national rankings, which were released Tuesday.
Although he sat out the Rebels' last two matches because of an injury, top singles player Henner Nehles moved up eight spots to No. 66 this week. The sophomore stands 16-6 overall and 12-4 in dual matches and is looking to earn an invitation to his first NCAA tournament.
On the women's side, top Lady Rebel Gyorgyi Zsiros broke into the rankings for the first time in more than a year. The junior has defeated three ranked players in the last few weeks, including No. 73 Maja Kovacek of New Mexico last weekend. Zsiros (16-12 and 13-8) stands at No. 105 in her first appearance in the rankings since Jan. 15, 2003, when she was 120th.
In the team rankings, the women's squad (15-6) fell six spots to No. 55 while the men's team (12-6) fell out of the rankings, which run 75 schools deep.
Both teams will travel to San Diego later this month for the Mountain West Conference tournament, which is set for April 29-May 1.
