LAS VEGAS - UNLV sophomore Henner Nehles has been named the Mountain West Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the second time this season, the league announced Wednesday.
Nehles raised his overall record to 16-6 in singles and 17-6 in doubles this season by going a combined 3-0 over the weekend.
On Saturday, Nehles downed Utah's top player, Roeland Brateanu, to help his team to a 6-0 victory over the Utes.
The following day, Nehles began by winnning his doubles match with partner Aviram Salomon to help UNLV jump out to a 1-0 lead over 64th-ranked San Diego State. With the team match eventually tied 3-3, Nehles upset now-44th-ranked Felix Hardt in three sets to give his team a key victory over the Aztecs. UNLV now sits all alone in first place with a 2-0 league mark.
This is the third such award for Nehles as the native of Duisberg, Germany, first won on March 12, 2003, and again earlier this season on February 11.
New Mexico's Iva Gersic was named the MWC Women's Player of the Week.
The Rebels travel to Albuquerque this weekend to face New Mexico and Air Force.
