Box Score

HOUSTON - UNLV (4-1-1) saw its hopes for a school record fifth straight win fall just short, as the Rice Owls (4-1-2) took advantage of an own goal to force a 1-1 double-overtime tie in women's collegiate soccer action on Sunday afternoon.

Early in the first half, a Rebel defender attempted to clear a deflected ball out of the box but instead sent it into the back of the UNLV net for a 1-0 lead for Rice at 17:41. UNLV would bounce back to tie the game at the 42:25 mark, as Jenny Ruiz headed in Jessica Brown's corner kick to make the score 1-1.

That was the last score of the game, despite UNLV holding a 24-14 edge on shots, including 20-10 over the first 90 minutes. UNLV's Jenna Huff finished with four saves in goal, while Owl goalkeeper Lauren Shockley posted seven.

The Rebels will stay on the road next weekend, taking on a pair of top-20 SEC schools. UNLV meets Auburn on Friday at 5 pm in Auburn, Ala., and then goes to Knoxville, Tenn., for a Sunday contest against Tennessee at 11 am.
