COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UNLV's Jessica Brown was named the Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, marking the second straight week a Rebel player has earned the honor, the conference announced today. The weekly honor is the first in her career for Brown, last week the award went to freshman forward Jessica Destito.
Brown, a junior midfielder from Las Vegas (Bishop Gorman), turned in a career game against Houston this past Friday in a 3-0 victory, as she scored the first two goals of the match to give UNLV a 2-0 halftime lead, and then assisted on the final score of the day in the victory. In the Rebels' game at Rice on Sunday, after an own goal gave the Owls a 1-0 lead, Brown sent a corner kick into the box that Jenny Ruiz headed in for a goal to tie the game and give Brown her second assist of the weekend. For the week, she finished with two goals and two assists, and leads the Rebels with seven points this season.
UNLV, 4-1-1 overall and riding a five-game unbeaten streak, stay on the road this weekend as the Rebels will take on No. 25 Auburn on Friday at 5 pm, and then will meet the 15th-ranked Tennessee Lady Vols on Sunday with an 11 a.m. start.
