Sept. 2, 2004
Las Vegas - The UNLV women's cross country team will be in action for the first time this fall, as the Rebels begin the 2004 season on Sept. 4 at the Fullerton Season Opener in Fullerton, Calif. Teams will run a 5K course and the meet gets underway at 9:15 am (PDT). This will be the first meet for the Rebels under new assistant track and field coach Pablo Sanchez, who has had only two weeks to work with the team before the season-opening meet Saturday. Sanchez and the team did benefit from a week of workouts at Mount Charleston, Nev., last week. "The week at Mount Charleston helped us to get to know each other better and provided a bridge between us," Sanchez said. "The Mountain West Conference is a very competitive conference in cross country and this will give us a good start to the season." Joining the Rebels at the Fullerton Invite will be San Diego State, which was picked to finish seventh in the Mountain West Conference by the league's coaches, just ahead of UNLV. Other teams that will be competing include Concordia, Pepperdine, USC and host Cal State Fullerton. After this weekend, UNLV continues its season at the UC Irvine Invitational in Irvine, Calif., on Sept. 11.
