Rebels Trek To The Golden State For NCAA West Regionals

UNLV Cross Country will run in the women’s 6K Friday at the Haggin Oaks Golf Course in Sacramento, California.

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV cross country team will venture back to the Golden State to compete in the NCAA West Regionals Friday. The Rebels and 38 other NCAA Division I programs will participate in the women's 6K (9 a.m.) at the Haggin Oaks Golf Course in Sacramento, California.

The Scarlet & Gray will be represented by Taryn Bailey, Aine McDade, Claire Rands, Reagan Reed, Alana Sangprasit, Autumn Viscardo and Angelina Vasquez.

LAST TIME OUT: UNLV finished 11th overall at the Mountain West Championships two weeks ago in Fresno, California. The Scarlet & Gray was paced by Vasquez, who finished 90th with a time of 23:13.7 (70 points). Reed was the second Rebel to cross the finish line – 93rd overall, with a time of 23:16.8 (72). Rands (23:38.6), Sangprasit (23:53.9), Bailey (24:06.0), McDade (24:24:18.1) and Viscardo (24:31.9) rounded out the scoring for UNLV with 73, 75, 76, 77 and 80 points, respectively.

WEST REGIONAL BREAKDOWN: The NCAA West Regional, which is being hosted by Sacramento State, will feature 39 teams from nine different conferences. The Mountain West will have four of its own in the race, including USTFCCCA West Region No. 6 Boise State, Fresno State, San Diego State and UNLV. In addition to Boise State, there will be four other top-30 teams competing Friday: No. 4 Oregon, No. 14 Stanford, No. 18 Washington and No. 28 Gonzaga.

NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS: Sacramento is one of nine regional sites that will automatically advance the top two finishers to the NCAA Championships at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course in Columbia, Missouri on Nov. 22. Four of the top individuals who do not finish on a qualifying team will also advance to the national championships. The remaining 13 at-large teams and two additional individuals will be selected by the NCAA DI Cross Country Subcommittee.
