NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Cal State Northridge scored twice in the first half on the way to a 3-1 victory over UNLV in collegiate men's soccer action on Friday afternoon at Matador Soccer Field. The Rebels fell to 1-5 with their fourth straight loss, while CS Northridge improved to 3-3, breaking a two-game losing streak.

Northridge jumped out to an early lead in the 10th minute when senior Yossi Raz passed to his right and found Facio. The junior booted the pass by UNLV goalkeeper Peter Clitheroe and into the top right corner of the net from 25 yards out to make it 1-0 at 9:06. The Rebels had a chance to tie it up 10 minutes later when Deshawn Woolery sent a shot to Matador keeper Radames Lafaurie, but it just eluded his fingertips, and Derek Hanks was parked on the goal line and cleared the ball to keep the score at 1-0.

The Matadors increased the lead to 2-0 in the 33rd minute when Daniel Paladini and Ryan Rossi teamed up for a give and go, resulting in Rossi scoring from 15 yards at 32:21. UNLV struck back just before halftime when Herbert Flores found a loose ball off a turnover and beat Lafaurie at 43:29 to make it 2-1, Flores' second career goal. UNLV had a great chance to tie the match at two in the 62nd minute. Chris Wessel sent a shot to the bottom right corner of the net, but Hanks again cleared the ball as it was about to go into the net. CSUN put the game out of reach when Jesse Servin moved past the Rebel defenders and sent the ball to the back of the net at 62:43 to make it 3-1. T

For the match, Lafaurie finished with seven saves, while Clitheroe posted six. UNLV was outshot for the game 27=21, including 15-6 in the first half.

UNLV returns to action on Sunday, as the Rebels will take on No. 2 UC Santa Barbara at 2 pm.
