BURNABY, British Columbia - Senior Odartey Blankson led all players in scoring and rebounding with 21 points and seven boards as the UNLV men's basketball team began its foreign exhibition tour with an 83-53 win on Saturday over the Burnaby Mountain All-Stars. The Burnaby squad didn't score its second field goal until midway through the first half, but by then the game was in UNLV's control. The Runnin' Rebels held Burnaby Mountain to 1-for its first 16 shots from the field and held it to just five points in the first 10 minutes of play. UNLV took a 31-19 halftime lead and coasted to an easy win in the first game of its exhibition series in the Lower Mainland. UNLV's defense limited Burnaby Mountain to 6-of-30 from the field in the first half (20.0 percent) and allowed only 29.6 percent shooting for the game (16-of-54). On the flip side, UNLV shot 51.7 percent for the game (30-of-58). Blankson was 7-of-12 from the field in only 25 minutes of action and three other Runnin' Rebels were in double figures in scoring (Michael Umeh, 12; Jerel Blassingame, 11; Louis Amundon, 10). All 12 of UNLV's players on the trip saw playing time. Burnaby Mountain was led by Brent Charleton with 13 points and Aaron Christensen added 11 points and six rebounds. Melvin Mynott was the only other Burnaby player in double figures in scoring as he had 10 points. UNLV will continue play in the Vancouver area with two games on Sunday. The Runnin' Rebels are scheduled to play Fraser Valley College at 11 a.m. and the University of British Columbia at 7 p.m. The tour concludes on Monday with a 12 p.m. game against Langara College.
