Defensive Honors

Oct. 10, 2005

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UNLV's Ashly O'Harrow was named the Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. The weekly honor is the first in her career for O'Harrow, and is the second straight of the season for the Rebels, as Nickie Olson was the Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 3.

O'Harrow, a Las Vegas (Cheyanne) native, was a big key in the Rebels' two shutout victories in their opening weekend of play in the conference. She was part of a backline that did not allow a goal in their two wins, as UNLV blanked both Air Force in a 2-0 win on Friday, and Wyoming 1-0 on Sunday. The Rebels were the only team to not allow a goal in conference play last weekend, and O'Harrow helped hold the two teams to a combined 15 shots. She came up even bigger on the offensive side in the Wyoming contest, as she knocked in a deflected save with just nine seconds left to give the Rebels the win. It was her first goal of the year, and the third game-winner in her career.

The Rebels, 7-4-3 overall, are on a four-game win streak and tied for first in the league, along with Utah at 2-0. UNLV is on the road again this weekend, taking on TCU in Fort Worth, Texas on Friday at 2 pm (PST), followed by a Sunday contest at New Mexico in Albuquerque at 11 am (PST).
