Box Score

LAS VEGAS - Junior midfielder Lisa Sternberg scored the first two goals of her career in the first 12 minutes, and UNLV added two more in the opening half for a dominating 4-0 victory over Creighton on Sunday afternoon on the second day of the UNLV Rebel Women's Soccer Classic from Peter Johann Memorial Field. The Rebels outscored their opponents 7-0 over their two games of the Classic, as UNLV posted a 3-0 win over Utah Valley State on Friday night. In the day's second game, Northern Arizona claimed a 4-0 win over UVS.

UNLV (5-4-3) played an aggressive game from the start, holding Creighton (6-3-3) to just one shot on goal in the first half. Meanwhile, the Rebels finished with 10 shots in the first half, all on goal, and in fact, 13 of their 14 shots for the game were all shots on goal. Sternberg scored the eventual game winner in the third minute, when Katie Carney sent a free kick into the box. Sternberg collected the ball, and sent a shot towards the goal that bounced off two Bluejays before going into the left post for a 1-0 Rebel lead. She then doubled her career goal total just eight minutes later, when she dribbled the ball towards the middle of the field just outside the box, and after finding herself unmarked, blasted a shot to the top left corner, make the score 2-0 in the 12th minute.

The score would move to 3-0 in the 27th minute when Tanya Roberts fed Angie Inzana down the right side, and she lofted a long high shot that just dropped into the top left corner of the goal. Carney then added the Rebels' fourth game of the in the 44th minute. With UNLV on the attack, Bluejay goalie Kristen Casey came out to make a play on the ball, but Erica Frizzell passed the ball off to Carney, who scored on the empty net from 10 yards.

UNLV's goalkeeping pair of Ciera Nero and Jenna Huff combined for their second straight shutout, with Nero making one save in the first half and Huff two in the second. Casey finished with eight saves and four goals allowed for Creighton. The Rebels had a 14-6 shot advantage, and 5-1 on corner kicks.

In the second game, Cee Cee Odorfer scored twice in the first 10 minutes to spark NAU to the 4-0 win. Tschana Breslin added the third goal of the game in the 40th minute, and Lindsey Carey headed in a free kick in the 71st minute to complete the scoring for the Lumberjacks (4-7). Utah Valley State (3-7) was held scoreless despite finishing with 14 shots. UNLV will now start conference play, and look to defend their Mountain West Conference regular season championship from a year ago as the Rebels will play Air Force in Colorado Springs on Friday at 3:30 pm, followed by a Sunday noon contest at Wyoming.
