Rebels Fall To Utes 1-0

Final Stats

LAS VEGAS - In a tight defensive game, Utah captalized on its lone shot on goal, a score by Amanda Feight in the 63rd minute that lifted the Utes to a 1-0 win over UNLV in Mountain West Conference women's soccer contest action on Saturday afternoon from Peter Johann Memorial Field. Utah clinched the conference regular season title with the win, moving to 13-5 overall and 6-0 overall, while the Rebels (9-6-3) fell to third place at 4-2, half a game behind BYU.

UNLV set the tone of play in the first half, and had two strong scoring chances that were just off the mark. Katie Carney slipped in past the defense and sent off a shot from 10 yards out that was stopped by Ute goalie Ashley Mason. Later in the half, Tanya Roberts just missed on a diving header attempt on an empty goal.

Whitney Dorsey set up the winning score for Utah midway through the second half, bringing the ball downfield on the right side before sending over a pass to Feight in the middle from the box. Feight settled the ball, and with three Rebel defenders around her managed to get off a high shot to the top right corner of the goal, just over the reach of UNLV goalkeeper Jenna Huff.

That was the only shot the UNLV defense would allow all day on goal, as it held the Utes to just six shots for the game. However, the Rebels could not find the back of the net themselves, with Mason finishing with three saves while facing seven shots.

UNLV will next host San Diego State on the Rebels' Senior Day on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 2:30 pm at Peter Johann Field.
