Lobos Win Second Straight Over Rebels

LAS VEGAS - Second-ranked New Mexico (12-1-1, 4-1-1 MPSF) scored three times in the second half on the way to a 4-0 win over the host UNLV Rebels (2-13, 0-6 MPSF) on Saturday afternoon in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men's soccer action from Peter Johann Memorial Field.

After allowing five first half goals in the first meeting between the teams this season one week ago, UNLV held the Lobos to just one goal in the first half, a score by Jeff Rowland on a free kick from 22 yards out that found its way to the back of the right corner of the goal in the 23rd minute.,

New Mexico would add to its lead in the second half in the 51st minute, when Cody Hanna collected a cross from Brandon Barklage in the box, and slotted a shot to the right side for a Lobo score, making it 2-0. Rowland also assisted on the goal. The Lobos sealed the game in the 62nd minute on a goal by Blake Danaher, as he sent a shot to the left corner from 18 yards out. Lars Loeseth was credited with an assist on the play. The final score came from Lance Watson, who scored on a breakaway after making a move past UNLV goalie Brett Hafeman in the 87th minute.

New Mexico finished with a 17-9 edge on shots. UNLV's Nicholas Paterson had two strong shots on goal that were stopped by two outstanding saves by Lobo goalkeeper Mike Graczyk, who finished with five saves to earn the shutout. Hafeman finished with five saves and four goals allowed.

UNLV will return to action on Friday at Sacramento State in a 2:30 pm contest.
