LAS VEGAS - One day after she was named Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, UNLV's Nickie Olson was also named to Top Drawer Soccer's National Team of the week on Tuesday.
Olson, a Las Vegas (Centennial) native, was a big key in the Rebels' two shutout victories over the weekend in the UNLV Rebel Classic. Against Utah Valley State on Friday night, Olson helped hold the Wolverines to just 11 shots for the game in the 3-0 UNLV victory. Against Creighton on Sunday, Olson was part of an outstanding defensive effort, as the Bluejays were held to just six shots for the game, including just one in the first half in the 4-0 Rebel win. Olson also provided offense as well from her defender position, as she headed in a corner kick in the second half against Utah Valley State for her second score of the year.
The Rebels, 5-4-3 overall, start conference play this week, and look to defend their Mountain West Conference regular season championship from a year ago. UNLV opens the MWC season at Air Force on Friday at 3:30 pm, followed by a Sunday noon contest at Wyoming.
