COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Air Force's David Schill scored the lone goal of the game just a minute after the start of the second half to lead the Falcons to a 1-0 win over UNLV in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men's soccer action on Sunday afternoon. The loss sends UNLV to 2-9 overall, 0-2 in league play, while Air Force improved to 3-6-2, 1-0-1.
After a scoreless first half, Schill scored just 1:04 into the second half by firing an 18-yard shot past Rebel goalie Peter Clitheroe. Andy Nigro set up the play by dribbling across the field at the top of the box and finding an open Schill, who blasted a shot to the right of Clitheroe.
The Rebels finished with the edge in shots, 16-13, but could not get past Air Force goalie Paul Elsbernd, who made three saves to earn the shutout win. Clitheroe finished with six saves for UNLV.
UNLV returns home this weekend to open its home conference schedule, hosting San Jose State on Friday at 7 pm, and Sacramento State on Sunday at Noon. Both games will be at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
