FULLERTON, Calif. - For the second straight year the UNLV women's soccer team extended its first round NCAA Tournament into extra time, but would fall just short of the second round as 15th-ranked Cal State Fullerton used an own goal by the Rebels to earn a 1-0 overtime on Friday night at Titan Stadium. UNLV finishes its season at 13-7-3, while the Titans improved to 18-3, and advances to play USC on Sunday in the second round.

The tone of the game was definitely in UNLV's favor in the opening 30 minutes, as the Rebels pushed the attack. The Rebels' best scoring chance came in the 16th minute, when Haley Partridge slipped past a Titan defender and blasted a point blank shot towards the goal from 16 yards out that was stopped by CSF goalkeeper Karen Bardsley. The ball bounced away from Bardsley, and Partridge unloaded another point blank shot that again was stopped by Bardsley.

Ten minutes later came another scoring opportunity for UNLV, when Tanya Roberts raced down the right side with the ball after the Titans failed to clear the ball, and sent a hard shot 20 yards out that was again saved by Bardsley.

The Titans began to apply more pressure near the end of the half, and finished with a 7-6 edge on shots. Their play carried into the second half, as they held an 11-1 edge on shots, but could not find the back of the net thanks to a Rebel defense that limited shots to outside of the box. UNLV goalkeeper Jenna Huff also came up big in the second half, including on a save on a header Marlene Sandoval from just five yards off the goal line.

With the game four minutes old into the first overtime, CSF's Jenesa Bradshaw sent a shot into the box that was collected by Huff, and then knocked away by a Titan player. The ball would end up spinning on the goal line, and a UNLV defender attempted to clear it off the line but could not stop the ball from going into the net.

Huff finished with four saves in the game, while Bardsley posted three saves to earn the shutout.
