Rebels Fall In Rough Affair

Nov. 11, 2005

Box Score

LAS VEGAS - In a contest that had the makings of a shootout, play turned more towards the physical side in UNLV's 3-1 defeat to Air Force in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play on Friday night at Peter Johann Memorial Field. Although four goals were scored in the match, the whistle was blown for 47 fouls, six yellow cards and one red card. The Rebels (2-15-1, 0-8-1 MPSF) out shot the Falcons (8-8-2, 6-2-1 MPSF) 10-to-8 and put one more shot on goal (5-to-4), but were unable to find the back of the net as often as their opponent did.

Air Force's David Schill got the scoring started early as he put the first score on the board in the first minute (00:44) of play. Schill deposited his third goal of the year into the lower right corner from 20-yards out off a throw in from Brett Selzer.

The Rebels knotted the score at 1-1 with Lamar Neagle's fifth tally of the season in the 27th minute (26:23). Neagle received a pass from Rod Dyachenko from the right-side of the box and was able to redirect the ball into the middle of the goal from three-yards out.

The Falcons regained control of the match on an odd occurrence of events in the 40th minute (39:18). With a foul and eventual yellow card to UNLV taking place behind the action, the referee let the Falcons' offense continue play, which resulted in the third goal of the game. Reid Gaiser put Air Force up 2-1 after picking up a loose ball and running down the left-side of the box. Gaiser pulled Brett Hafeman out of position and shot the ball from left to right from 12-yards out. After the goal was scored, a yellow card was given to Deshawn Woolery for rough play.

Only one goal was scored in the second half, while 27 fouls were called. In the 61st minute (60:10), Scott Muir picked up his 11th goal of the season from a long pass by Duncan McNabb. McNabb hit a streaking Muir with a pass from midfield. Muir gained possession of the ball and beat two defenders and Peter Clitheroe from 10-yards out. Clitheroe entered the contest at the beginning of the second half.

Next up for the UNLV is their final regular season contest of the year on Sunday, Nov. 13. The Rebels will host the Denver Pioneers on Senior Day at noon.
