PALM SPRINGS, Calif. - UNLV (10-8) surrendered four runs in the first inning and was unable to mount a comeback against Cal State Fullerton (4-5) in the finale of the Palm Springs Classic at Big League Dreams in Cathedral City, Calif. Down 5-0, Marissa Nichols scored the Rebels lone run of the day in the sixth inning with her fourth home run of the year and third for the weekend. Nichols solo-shot soared over the left field fence.
The Titans jumped on Jacque Kerrigan (8-7) early with four runs on four hits in the first inning. Fullerton began with a single and followed with back-to-back doubles before Ashley Van Boxmeer plated two runs on her first home run of the season to left field.
Van Boxmeer wasn't done with her home run barrage as she knocked out her second of the day in the fourth.
Kerrigan lasted only one-third of an inning for the Rebels. Shannon Crisp took to the circle after Van Boxmeer's home run. Crisp threw 5.2 innings and gave up three hits in her effort.
Candice Baker (3-1) picked up the win for CSUF and allowed only four hits to the Rebel batters. UNLV was unable to string together a multiple-hit inning in the game. Baker's only mistake was the home run given up to Nichols.
UNLV's Brittney Meade was not able to extend her hitting streak against the Titans and ends the streak at nine games.
