Final Stats
LAS VEGAS - UNLV (15-9) jumped out early and often on Bowling Green (1-11) Thursday in the night cap of day one at the Eller Media Stadium Classic. The Rebels knocked 11 hits around the field en route to a 5-0 victory and their fourth shutout of the year. Jacque Kerrigan (10-8) only needed the first inning run put up by UNLV, who played the contest as the visitors, for her 10th win on the year. Becky McDonald tossed the final two innings to preserve the victory and to notch her first save of the year.
Marissa Nichols began the game with a walk. Caitlyn Paus advanced Nichols to second on a single to right. Brittany Meade followed with a single up the middle which moved Paus up to third, but Nichols was thrown out at home. Shannon Crisp brought Paus home from third on a sacrifice fly to left field.
In the third, Nichols singled through the left side and subsequently stole second. Paus singled to center and moved up to second on a throwing error from the centerfielder. With runners on second and third, Meade brought Nichols home with a single to right.
The Rebels added three insurance runs in the fifth thanks to a two-RBI single by Morgan Bostwick, which scored Meade and pinch-runner Kahaunani Kahananui. Maggie Livreri scored on the continuation of the play following Bostwick's at-bat. Meade, Crisp, Livreri and Bostwick scattered four-consecutive singles to plate the runners.
With the five runs on the board, Becky McDonald was summoned from the bullpen and proceeded to close out the game. McDonald struck out three of the seven batters she faced and allowed only one hit.
