LAS VEGAS - After surrendering two runs to break open a scoreless contest, UNLV (14-9) used two errors to its advantage to plate four unearned runs in a 4-2 win over North Carolina State (23-11) Thursday night at the Eller Media Stadium Classic. Shannon Crisp threw five innings for her fifth win of the year, before surrendering the ball to Jacque Kerrigan for the final two innings and her second save.
The game remained scoreless until the top of the fifth when the Wolfpack recorded back-to-back home runs off of Crisp to begin the inning. Crisp settled down and retired the next three batters to end the frame.
The Rebels managed to score four runs in the bottom of the fifth to claim the lead, on one hit. The Wolfpack fielders gifted four runs to the Rebels. UNLV recorded its first two runs on an error and plated the final two on a two RBI-single by Morgan Bostwick.
In the fifth, Amber Campbell reached on a throwing error by the NC State first baseman. Marissa Nichols followed with a walk. Campbell was thrown out at third on a fielder's choice bunt attempt by Caitlyn Paus. Brittany Meaded walked to load the bases. Two runners scored on Maggie Livreri's grounder to the second baseman. The throw to first was dropped by the first baseman and allowed Nichols and Paus to score on the play. Pinch hitter Pauline Glenn was hit by a pitch to load the bases for the second time in the inning. Bostwick broke the 2-2 tie with her single to right field.
Jacque Kerrigan relieved Crisp in the sixth for her second save in as many games. Kerrigan allowed two runners in her two innings of work. She hit a batter in the sixth and a two-out error in the seventh put the second one on.
UNLV will face Bowling Green (1-10) in game three of the Eller Media Stadium Classic Thursday night.
