Rebel Bats Holstered By 'Perfect' Arizona Pitching

March 11, 2005

Final Stats

LAS VEGAS - Top-ranked Arizona's (16-0) Alicia Hollowell (9-0) only needed the Wildcats' first inning run to clinch her ninth win of the season in Friday's finale at the Eller Media Stadium Classic. Hollowell was supported with five runs by her teammates and held UNLV (15-10) hitless and without a runner reaching first base safely for the second perfect game thrown against the Rebels in its history.

UNLV's bats were silented by 12 strikeouts (which ties the most strikeouts collected by opposing pitching against UNLV in 2005), six fly ball outs and three ground outs. The Rebels best chance for a hit came in the fifth inning when Brittany Meade led off with a deep fly to left center but Caitlin Lowe tracked it down with help from her speed.

Arizona jumped out early on Jacque Kerrigan (10-9) in the first inning. Kerrigan got the first batter to line out to Amber Campbell at short, but gave up a single and two doubles to plate UA's first run. On the first double, Autumn Champion rounded third to head home, but ran into her head coach, Mike Candrea, and was ruled out by interference. The Wildcats used their second double of the inning to bring Kristie Fox in for the first run of the game.

The game remained 1-0 in Arizona's favor until the fourth when they used its third double of the game to bring home its second run. All four of the Wildcats' doubles were hit to left field.

The Wildcats put up another run in the fifth and two more in the sixth thanks to three UNLV errors in those innings.

UNLV will play Pacific Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Eller Media Stadium.
