Final Stats

LAS VEGAS - UNLV (18-11) avenged Sunday's 5-2 loss to Minnesota with a 3-0 victory Tuesday evening at Eller Media Stadium. Jacque Kerrigan (12-10) tossed her third shutout of the season and 10th complete game of the year against the Golden Gophers. The Rebels only needed their lone run in the third to hold up, but added two more for insurance in the fifth on Minnesota's starter, Lyn Peyer (7-7).

In one of her more dominant outings of the year, Kerrigan allowed only three hits on the night. She only struck out one and allowed one batter to reach base with a walk. Her toughest inning was in the third when she allowed a double to open the inning and a single to put two runners on the base paths. With the runners on third and second, Kerrigan was able to get the final two batters to fly out to end the threat.

UNLV took advantage of Minnesota's inability to score and put a run on the board for itself. Amber Campbell started things with a bunt single. Marissa Nichols followed with a walk. Brittany Freight sacrificed herself on a bunt allowing Campbell and Nichols to move up a base. Caitlyn Paus singled to right and brought Campbell home for the first run of the game.

In the fifth, Nichols hit her team-leading ninth double to left center. Freight reached base on a bunt single and continued to second when UM's catcher overthrew the first baseman. Nichols came around to score on the errant throw. Freight moved to third on a passed ball thrown to Paus. Paus reached on a fielder's choice when the fielder decided to throw to the plate in an attempt to get Freight coming home. Freight slid in safely for the Rebels' third and final run of the night.

In the final two frames, Kerrigan allowed only one hit. A one-out double in the seventh was all that Minnesota would get. Kerrigan was able to get the next to batters to ground out to end the game.

Next up for UNLV is the final mid-week contest againt Long Island on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Eller Media Stadium.
