LAS VEGAS - In the final tune up before hitting the road to Reno, Nev., UNLV (19-11) picked up its third-straight win in a 8-4 victory over Long Island University (3-14) on Wednesday afternoon at Eller Media Stadium. UNLV got a solid pitching effort from Shannon Crisp (7-0) in her first complete game of the season. Crisp helped herself offensively by scoring three RBI and one run against the Blackbirds.

The Rebels jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a RBI-triple to left field by Brittany Freight. Marissa Nichols had reached first on a walk to start the bottom half of the inning. Freight's shot to the fence scored Nichols from first.

LIU tied the game up with a run in the third. An error by Amber Campbell at short stop allowed for the Blackbirds lead off hitter to reach safely. A passed ball allowed the runner to move to second. A successful sacrifice bunt advanced the runner to third. A second passed ball plated the unearned run to knot the score at one.

In the bottom half of the third, UNLV regained the lead for good with two runs on three hits. After Nichols reached on a fielder's choice, Caitlyn Paus doubled to center to put runners in scoring position. Brittany Meade followed with a two-RBI double to right.

The Rebels increased their lead to four with three in the fifth on five hits. Freight and Britney Hillyer singled to put runners on first and second. Crisp followed with a double to left to plate both runners. Becky McDonald singled up the middle to put two runners back on the base paths. Rosa Ordaz singled down the left field line to score Crisp from second.

LIU used a throwing error by Crisp on an attempt to get the lead runner on a fielder's choice play to put two runners on. A double by Randi Gillespie brought both runners home to cut the deficit to three. Another fielder's choice play on a bunt scored another Blackbird to make the score 6-4 in favor of UNLV.

The Rebels struck for two in the sixth to tally their final run total of eight. Nichols opened the inning with a first-pitch home run to dead-center. The shot cleared the outer fence of Eller Media Stadium. Three consecutive singles followed Nichols' homer to load the bases. With one out and the bases loaded, Crisp brought in her third RBI of the game on a sacrifice fly to right field.

Next up for the Rebels is a road trip to play the University of Nevada, Reno in a doubleheader on Saturday at noon.
