LAS VEGAS - LAS VEGAS - UNLV sophomore outfielder Brittany Freight (Placentia, Calif.) was chosen today as the Mountain West Conference's Player of the Week. In three games last week, Freight hit .800 (8-for-10) at the plate. She hit a triple, knocked in three RBI, scored three runs and stole two bases in victories over Long Island and Minnesota. She had a slugging percentage of 1.000 and an on-base percentage of .818.
In UNLV's first game vs. Long Island, Freight went 3-for-4 with two RBI singles, a run scored and two stolen bases, as UNLV beat the Blackbirds, 11-3. She followed with a 2-for-2, one run scored performance in the Rebels' 3-0 win over Minnesota, and concluded her week with another 3-for-4 outing against Long Island. She started the game with an RBI triple to left field, giving UNLV the early 1-0 lead. She also had two singles and a run scored in the game, as the Rebels defeated the Blackbirds, 8-4. Defensively, Freight went errorless in the outfield with five putouts. With her 8-for-10 performance, Freight upped her batting average by 62 points. She is currently second on the team in doubles (five), and third in hits (26), RBI (14) and triples (three).
This is UNLV's fourth time to be honored with the player of the week this season. Previously, Marissa Nichols won the award three consecutive weeks from Feb. 22-March 8.
