Final Stats
PALO ALTO, Calif. - After scoring 12 runs against Illinois, UNLV (21-11) used the minimum necessary to win 2-1 against #20/24 Northwestern (15-8). Northwestern picked up its lone run in the second inning, but UNLV plated one in the third to tie the game at one in the sixth for the lead. Jacque Kerrigan (14-10) picked up her 11th complete game of the season and struck out seven in the process.
NU used a leadoff double in the second to put its only run on the board. Following the double, a sacrifice bunt advanced the runner to third. An RBI-single plated the run.
UNLV evened the score on a two-out solo home run to right by Marissa Nichols. The home run was the second of the day for the left fielder and extended her hitting streak to seven games.
Nichols was responsible for the winning run in the sixth as she began the inning with a walk. She moved to second with her 21st stolen base of the season. Caitlyn Paus advanced Nichols to third on a ground out to second. Brittany Meade brought home Nichols on a single to right center.
Up next for UNLV are games at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Friday, against Hawaii and Saint Mary's, respectively.
