LAS VEGAS -
UNLV (12-9) fell to 11th-ranked Oklahoma (20-4) Saturday evening at Eller Media Stadium in the Las Vegas Classic. An error by UNLV and two unearned runs in the first inning were the difference in the tight 4-3 contest. Oklahoma improves to 3-0 in the Classic, while UNLV is 2-1.
Jacque Kerrigan (9-8) began the game with a lead off walk to Oklahoma's Norrelle Dickson. Kristen Vesely followed with a grounder to Brittany Meade at third. Meade chose to get the lead runner at second, but no one covered in time and her throw rolled to the right center fence. Dickson scored on the error and Vesely stopped at third. An RBI-single to left plated Vesely.
UNLV got one run back in the bottom of the first on an RBI-double to right center by Meade off of OU's Nicole Denes. Marissa Nichols began the Rebel at-bat with a single to center. Shannon Crisp followed Meade's at-bat with a single to second base. That was all the offense for the Rebels as Maggie Livreri popped up to the second baseman, who doubled-off Crisp at first.
The game remained scoreless until the fourth when Oklahoma and UNLV scored two runs, apiece. OU got a lead off single to left and a two-run home run down the left field line by Savannah Long.
Brittany Freight to put runners at first and second. Bostwick singled to left to load the bases. Rosa Ordaz came to the plate as a pinch-hitter and reached on a fielder's choice, but recorded . Bostwick was forced out at second on the play, but Livreri came home for UNLV's second run of the inning and Ordaz's first RBI as a Rebel.
UNLV will play Long Beach State later Saturday evening in a game that has been pushed up from Sunday afternoon.
