Final Stats

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - UNLV (24-13, 1-1 MWC) jumped out to an early 3-0 lead through the first half inning, but squandered the game to New Mexico (11-18, 1-1 MWC). Shannon Crisp (7-1) suffered her first defeat as a Rebel. The Rebels committed four errors and allowed four unearned runs in gifting the games to the Lobos.

Game two of the opening weekend of Mountain West Conference play began perfectly for UNLV. The first four hitters began the game by hitting for the cycle as a team. Marissa Nichols led off the game with her 10th home run of the season. Brittany Freight came up next and doubled to left. Caitlyn Paus brought Freight home on a triple hit to the right field gap. Brittany Meade concluded the first inning scoring with a single through the left side to bring Paus in from third.

UNM used three singles and a Shannon Crisp error to pull within one of UNLV. Back-to-back one out singles put runners on first and third. A ground out by Cassie Chavez scrored the first run for New Mexico. Kristina Schmallen bunted her way to first safely. Crisp's throw went to the right of Bostwick covering first and allowed Lindsey Elcess score from third.

In the second, with one out and a runner on first, Crisp committed her second error of the game on a comebacker to the circle. Both runners moved up on a fly out to right. Elcess walked to load the bases. Chavez singled up the middle and ended up coming around to score on a wild continuation of the play by UNLV. Chavez plated two runners on the blooper towards the second base bag. Two throwing errors on the play resulted in Elcess and Chavez to come around and score unearned runs.

UNM scored their seventh and final run of the game in the fourth on an RBI-single to left that scored Amy Ray. Ray began the frame with a single.

Up next for UNLV is a Sunday doubleheader in Fort Collins, Colo., against Colorado State. Game time is set for noon.
