Final Stats
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - UNLV (24-12) defeated New Mexico (10-18) 10-4 in game one of Friday's doubleheader in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The game was the Mountain West Conference opener for both squads. Jacque Kerrigan (16-11) got plenty of run support thanks to a bases clearing triple by Amber Campbell and a three-run home run by Morgan Bostwick early in the game.
Kerrigan dodged an early attack by the Lobos after Ryanne Hodgins opened the bottom of the first with a leadoff triple down the left field line. Kerrigan was able to sit the next two players down on strikes and get an inning ending ground out.
UNLV used the first inning as a boost for itself in the second, as Brittany Meade, Bostwick and Pauline Glenn all were given free passage to the bases thanks to either being hit by a pitch or taking four balls. The three runners came back to haunt the Lobos' starter, Ashley Perkins (4-8). With two outs and the bases juiced, Campbell brought all three home on a triple to right center.
The Rebels added three more runs in the third on a shot over the left field fence by Bostwick. The home run is the first for Bostwick dating back to her sophomore year. Caitlyn Paus and Meade were sitting in scoring position when the two-out home run was hit.
New Mexico got three runs back on a three-run homer by Lindsey Elcess. UNM got a single by Hodgins and a walk to Amy Ray to put runners on base for Elcess. The Lobos fourth run came in the fifth on another homer by Elcess.
UNLV opened the game wide-open with four runs in the fourth. With Campbell and Brittany Freight at first and second, respectively, Paus plated both runners with a triple to right center. Meade followed with a walk. With two runners on, Maggie Livreri doubled off the left field fence for two RBI.
Following the Rebels' scoring, neither team mounted much offensive effort. Only three hits were recorded from the bottom of the fourth to the end of the game.
Game Notes: Marissa Nichols' 10-game hitting streak was snapped as she went hitless in four at-bats.
Up next for the Rebels is game two of Friday's scheduled doubleheader.
