Final Stats
LAS VEGAS - UNLV (28-14, 5-2 MWC) put a 10-spot on the scoreboard and implemented the run rule (ahead by eight or more after five innings of play) in a 10-0 victory over the Utah Utes (12-18, 1-4 MWC). The game went the Rebels way, but defensive lapses continue to haunt the home team as they committed three errors. Utah's defense gave a little more as they mishandled five times. Jacque Kerrigan (18-12) picked up her fourth shutout of the season and 22nd of her career.
UNLV plated runners in every inning, but the third. Two runners crossed the plate in the first, three in the second and five more in the fourth to close out the scoring in the game.
Marissa Nichols doubled to open up the Rebels first scoring chance of the game on Utah's Brianna Gourdin (8-8). Brittany Freight reached on a throwing error, by the pitcher, attempting to sacrifice bunt Nichols to third. Nichols rounded third too far and was caught in a run down. She was tagged out by the catcher for the first out of the inning. Caitlyn Paus singled to right center and moved to third on an attempt to get Freight at third. Brittany Meade brought both runners home with a single to right center.
With a 2-0 lead, Kerrigan had all the run support she needed. Kerrigan allowed three hits and one walk, while striking out four in the five-inning effort.
In the second, three runs cross on two hits and one Ute error. Valerie Keeney reached on a fielding error by the first baseman. Morgan Bostwick sacrificed herself to move Keeney into scoring position. With two out, Freight walked to put two runners on for Paus. Paus scored Keeney on a double down the left field line. After a walk to load the bases to Meade, Maggie Livreri brought two runners home with a double down the left line.
After a scoreless third, the flood gates opened up for the Rebels in the fourth. Meade opened the inning with a walk. Kahaunani Kahananui pinch ran for Meade and took second on a wild pitch to Livreri, who eventually walked, as well. Pauline Glenn doubled to right field and brought home Kahananui. Keeney followed with a run scoring single to left. When Keeney advanced to second ,on a throwing error by the left fielder, it allowed Glenn to score. Becky McDonald closed out the fourth with a two-run homer to right field. McDonald's shot was the second of her career as a Rebel.
