Final Stats
LAS VEGAS - In game two of UNLV's Mountain West Conference doubleheader against San Diego State, the Rebels (32-15, 8-2 MWC) used Maggie Livreri's third grand slam of the season and second of the week to put four runs on the board in the 4-0 blanking. Unlike game one, the Aztecs (23-21, 1-9 MWC) were able to put six hits on the board as opposed to the one they registered in the first affair. Once again, Jacque Kerrigan (21-13) came up big in the circle and held the Aztecs scoreless, just like in game one, today to register her sixth shutout of the season.
SDSU had its chances to score, but left five base runners stranded in the game. Four of the five were in scoring position. In the seventh, two runners were left on when the final out of the game was recorded.
Similar to game one, UNLV got the hit it needed to go ahead in the ball game. In game one it was a third inning two-run home run by Marissa Nichols. In the nightcap it was a fourth inning grand slam by Livreri.
Livreri got her opportunity after Nichols singled to open up the fourth. Valerie Keeney reached first base when the second baseman wasn't able to secure a throw from the Cori Janelli (9-11) on the sacrifice bunt attempt. Nichols moved to third when the ball flicked off of Allison Smith's glove. Brittany Meade came to the plate, after a pop up by Caitlyn Paus, and was hit by her team-leading seventh pitch. Next up was Livreri and she cranked the pitch to left center.
Kerrigan was able to get herself out of jams and got help from the defense behind her as they went errorless in the game. Kerrigan struck out three and didn't walk any. She improves to 7-1 when she doesn't allow a walk.
