Regular Season Ends, The Postseason Begins...

Fifty-seven games down and hopefully, many more to play. UNLV closed out the regular season with a 41-16 record. The 41-wins are the third-most in the softball program's history. The Rebels closed out the Mountain West Conference regular season with a 17-3 record and a second-place finish, which puts them as the #2-seed. With the two-seed UNLV's first game will be against the winner of the 2 pm game between #3-seed Colorado State/#6-seed San Diego State.

The Rebels went 4-0 on the weekend and finished with a series sweep of Colorado State (four-games to none) and a 3-to-1 series edge on New Mexico. UNLV won by scores of 8-0 (six innings), 3-1 against CSU and 4-2, 7-2 against UNM.

Paus Gives UNLV Player Of The Week Award #10...

UNLV added to its collection of Mountain West Conference Player of the Week awards for the 2005 season, as Caitlyn Paus was announced the recipient of the award for her actions this past weekend against Colorado State and New Mexico. Paus joins Marissa Nichols (six selections), Brittany Freight, Maggie Livreri and Brittany Meade as winners of the weekly award.

Paus led the Rebels to doubleheader sweeps over the Rams and Lobos, helping UNLV secure a #2-seed in this week's MWC Softball Tournament. In game one versus the Rams, she went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run, three RBI and two runs scored in an 8-0 win. She also went 2-for-3 in game two, smashing her second homer of the day, knocking in a run and scoring another run in the Rebels' 3-1 victory. Paus followed Friday's performance with one just as good, if not better, on Sunday against the Lobos. In the doubleheader she went 4-for-6 at the plate and drove in four RBI, while scoring a run, as well. In game two vs. New Mexico, she racked up three hits in four at-bats. One of her three hits came in the form of her third home run on the weekend.

On the weekend Paus hit .667 (8-for-12) with three home runs, eight RBI and four runs scored, a slugging percentage of 1.417 and an on-base percentage of .692. Defensively, she was perfect from her second base position with seven putouts and four assists. On the year she is hitting .337 with nine home runs and 44 RBI. Paus has moved her name into two of UNLV's single-season record categories. Her nine home runs place her in a three-way tie for 9th-place in UNLV's single-season record book, while her 44 RBI are worthy of second-place. Just like in the home run category, she is tied with two other former Rebels.
