LAS VEGAS - UNLV sophomore Brittany Freight was named by Softball Canada, the National Governing Body of Softball in Canada, as one of the 17-members selected for Team Canada. The Canadian National Team will participate in the Canada Cup (July 2-11) in Surrey, British Columbia and the World Cup of Softball (July 14-18) in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Coincidentally, Freight will not have to go far for a familiar face as her collegiate coach, Lonni Alameda, is serving as an assistant coach this summer for Canada. Alameda is in her second stint with Team Canada as she helped coach the team prior to the 2004 Olympics held in Athens, Greece.
Freight joins a squad that features nine athletes that participated for Canada in the 2004 Summer Olympics, including standout pitcher Lauren Bay. Bay pitched collegiately at Oklahoma State and was named the Big XII's Player of the Year in 2003. She was a top-10 finalist for USA Softball's Collegiate Player of the Year honor.
