LAS VEGAS - The UNLV men's soccer team gave up four first half goals and fell to Yavapai CC 6-3 in an exhibition game on Sunday night from Peter Johann Memorial Field.
The Rebels, who began preseason practice just four days ago, fell behind 4-1 after Yavapai scored three goals in a 12-minute span, but senior forward Forrest Smith scored his second goal of the half on a cross shot to the far right post in the 45th minute to make the score 4-2. Smith's first goal came on a header in the 34th minute.
UNLV opened the second half with another score, as Rod Dyanchenko found Martin Kenny alone in the middle of the box, and Kenny sent the shot to the right post for the score in the 49th minute. However, Yavapai would add to more scores to finish with the 6-3 win. UNLV held a 16-12 edge on shots, while UNLV's three goalies all played 30 minutes, and combined for two saves.
The regular season begins for the Rebels on Friday, Sept. 2 as they head to Madison, Wisc., to take on Wisconsin in the 2005 Wisconsin Big Toe Soccer Invitational.
