LAS VEGAS - UC Riverside scored twice in the first half to hand UNLV its first home loss of the year, 2-0 on Friday night in men's collegiate soccer action from Peter Johann Memorial Field. With the loss, the Rebels fall to 2-5 on the year, while the Highlanders won their first game of 2005 to improve to 1-5-1.

Randy Poggio put UCR on the scoreboard early, as he collected a loose ball in the box that bounced off a Rebel defender, and sent a shot to the left corner of the goal for the score and a 1-0 lead just 3:51 into the game. The Highlanders kept up the attack the rest of the half, finishing with nine shots, and were able to take advantage of another loose ball in the box in the 27th minute. This time the ball was deflected towards the middle, and Erasmo Solorzano blasted a shot from the middle from 12 yards out for the 2-0 UCR lead at 26:43.

The Rebels would not find the back of the net for the night, and were outshot 17-11. Bret Hafeman, making his first career start in goal for the Rebels, finished with five saves and two goals allowed, while Jordan King finished with five saves to earn the shutout.

UNLV will return to action on Sunday, as the Rebels will meet No. 25 UCLA in Los Angeles at 1 pm.
